Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy In San Luis Obispo

  • 1. What is therapy, and how can it help me?
Therapy for anxiety or trauma is a collaborative process where you work with a trained therapist to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It can help you gain insight into your challenges, develop coping strategies, and make positive changes in your life. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, grief or loss, relationship issues, or simply seeking personal growth, in-person therapy therapy in Los Osos or San Luis Obispo can provide the support and guidance you need along your journey back to health.
  • 2. What types of anxiety and trauma therapy do you offer?
I have a background in Depth Psychology and I focus on helping clients to heal the root of their anxiety. I am trained in Brainspotting, a gentle and effective alternative to EMDR, that utilizes bilateral stimulation and the natural processing of your brain and body to access and heal from traumatic memories. I also incorporate Solution-Focused therapy, parts-work, and Somatic therapy to reduce anxiety by helping you learn coping skills to regulate your nervous system. My approach is gentle, holistic, and client-centered. I tailor sessions to your unique needs and goals.
  • 3. How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you’re struggling with emotional challenges, relationship difficulties, or life transitions, or if you’re simply looking to better understand yourself, therapy can be beneficial. It’s an opportunity to increase self awareness, heal your heart and soul, and to break longstanding patterns in a safe, supportive environment and gain the tools you need to lead a more fulfilling life.
  • 4. What should I expect in my first session?
In your first session, we’ll spend time getting to know each other and discussing what brings you to therapy. We’ll explore your goals and what you hope to achieve through our work together. It’s also a chance for you to ask any questions you may have and for us to determine if we’re a good fit for each other.
  • 5. How long does therapy take?
The length of therapy varies depending on your individual needs and goals. Some people find short-term therapy helpful for specific issues, while others benefit from longer-term therapy for deeper exploration and lasting change. We’ll regularly review your progress and discuss the duration of therapy as we move forward.
  • 6. How often will we meet?
Sessions are typically held once a week, but the frequency can be adjusted based on your needs and preferences. We’ll work together to find a schedule that works best for you.
  • 7. Is therapy confidential?
Yes, therapy is confidential. Everything you share in sessions is private and protected by law, with a few exceptions related to safety (e.g., if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others). I’ll explain these exceptions in more detail during our first session.
  • 8. Do you offer online therapy?
Yes, I offer both in-person and online therapy sessions. Online therapy can be a convenient option if you have a busy schedule or prefer the comfort of your own space. All you need is a private, quiet place and a stable internet connection.
  • 9. What are your fees, and do you accept insurance?
My fees are $165/50-minute session. I do not accept insurance directly, but I can provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. It’s recommended that you check with your insurance provider about out-of-network benefits.
  • 10. How do I schedule an appointment?
You can schedule a free phone consultation by calling, emailing, or using the online booking system. If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to reach out—I’m here to help.
  • 11. What if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment?
If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please notify me at least 24 hours in advance. This allows me to offer the time slot to another client. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice will be subject to a cancellation fee.
  • 12. What is your approach to therapy?
My approach is holistic and client-centered, meaning I tailor the therapy to fit your unique needs. I combine various therapeutic modalities, including Depth Psychology, Brainspotting, and somatic therapy, to help you explore your experiences, build resilience, and achieve your goals. I believe in creating a safe, empathetic space where you can feel understood and supported.
